THE TOWN OF AITOS
 The town of Aitos is located in the east part of Bulgaria, in the administrative borders of the Bourgas region. It is 365 km east of Sofia and 204 km. east of Plovdiv. At 6 km. to the northeast is the Aitos mountain, which is a part of east Stara Planina.
The town of Aitos is one of the most ancient settlements, known from the Thracian epoch. All of the archeological findings shows that the town existed 5 thousands years BC. Khan Tervel was the first ruler of Aitos. The Aitos fortress played a major role in the defensive system of the Bulgarian land. In 1378 the town was captured by the military army of sultan Murad. In the period of the Russian – Turkish Liberation war (1828 – 1829), the legendary general Dibich Zabalkanski, transformed the town into strategic center. In the Revival period the local population took an active part in the Liberation war. Vasil Levski found in the town revolutionary committee. After the Liberation war, the town of Aitos became a trade center, even bigger than Bourgas. Here was found the first girls' agriculture school in the country. There are a lot of Moslems in the region. And the mosque here is proclaimed for historical monument.
